Curriculum

At Mount St Mary's Catholic High School we aim to offer to all pupils an interesting, broad and balanced curriculum which promotes examination success and recognises personal achievement at all levels.  Accuracy in spelling, numeracy and presentation of work is promoted across all subjects.  At Key Stage 4, pupils must continue to study religious education (RE), English, Maths and Science.  Most pupils continue to study French/Spanish and Technology.  They may also exercise a degree of choice by choosing one or two optional subjects.  Pupils are encouraged to achieve the highest possible standards with teaching and learning geared to the individual needs of the pupil.  All pupils follow a GNVQ course in ICT.

Subjects are taught in a framework of a 25 period week.  Each period lasts one hour.

Personal, Health, Social and Citizenship Education (PHSCE)  is taught as a rolling programme each week.

As a Specialist College for Mathematics and ICT particular focus will be placed upon improvement and innovation in these areas.  The needs of all pupils will be met through extending and enhancing the opportunities available, with particular attention being paid to the integration of these subjects in the whole school curriculum.  All aspects of school and community life will be embraced through the sharing of improve resources and expertise.

Work Related Learning

On this course the pupils are offered a positive alternative Work Related Curriculum that provides support through one to one mentoring.  In Year 10 a Carousel Programme of Vocational College Courses allows pupils to gain experience of different Vocational areas and different colleges in Leeds.  They choose 3 courses during the year and attend one day a week.  In Year 11 there are a mixture of lessons in school in RE, Maths, English and Science, work experience and college courses.  In order to provide this support the WRL co-ordinator works closely with learning mentors, teaching staff, external businesses and support agencies.
